UPDATED: Froyo available for download for the EVO 4G

If you can’t wait to get Android 2.2 on your EVO you can download it here and manually install it.  Hit up the read more link for instructions.  Please note that this is not the official ROM and HTC strongly advise that you don’t install it.

Update: HTC have pulled the download and it is no longer available.

Here are the steps:

Download

You can download the firmware from here.

Rename

Rename it to update.zip.  Do not unzip it.

SD Card

Move the file to the root of your SD card.

Recovery Mode

Reboot into recovery mode (hold the volume up button during boot)

Boot Loader

You will be presented with the boot loader screen.  The volume up/volume down buttons are used for scrolling and the power button for selecting.  If you see a red exclamation point at this stage try mashing the volume buttons then wait for 15-20 sec the boot loader should come up.

Menu Options

When you see the boot loader screen select Bootloader.  Scroll down to recovery and select it.  The phone will now reboot into recovery

Install

Select “apply update.zip” or “install from .zip”.  The installation process will start and should take about 15 to 20 minutes.

Please Note

You will lose root if you install this.

HTC advise not to install this as it is not the official or final ROM.
